چکیده

1.1 Laparoscopic surgery Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) has changed the way surgery is performed in Operating Rooms (OR). MIS techniques are increasing their relevance in almost all surgical specialities, and have become the recommended standard in many procedures, displacing open surgery. Laparoscopy, one of the most common MIS approaches, has been adopted by several surgical sub-specialties including gastrointestinal, gynaecological and urological surgery (Fig. 1). It has become the standard technique for certain pathologies, like those associated with anti-reflux diseases, and procedures such as cholecystectomy (Cuschieri, 2005).

A Surgical Virtual Reality Simulator Distinguishes Between Expert Gynecologic Laparoscopic Surgeons and Perinatologists

BACKGROUND Concern regarding the quality of surgical training in obstetrics and gynecology residency programs is focusing attention on competency based education. Because open surgical skills cannot necessarily be translated into laparoscopic skills and with minimally invasive surgery becoming standard in operative gynecology, the discrepancy in training between obstetrics and gynecology will ...

The added value of virtual reality technology and force feedback for surgical training simulators.

Laparoscopic surgery requires more specialized training of the surgeons than traditional open surgery. The Virtual Basic Laparoscopic Surgical Trainer (VBLaST) is being developed as a virtual version of the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Skills (FLS) trainer. This study assessed the current haptic and virtual reality (VR) technology of a virtual peg transfer task of the VBLaST, based on the subje...

Surgeon-tool force/torque signatures--evaluation of surgical skills in minimally invasive surgery.

The best method of training for laparoscopic surgical skills is controversial. Some advocate observation in the operating room, while others promote animal and simulated models or a combination of surgical related tasks. The mode of proficiency evaluation common to all of these methods has been subjective evaluation by a skilled surgeon. In order to define an objective means of evaluating perfo...

VSOne, a virtual reality simulator for laparoscopic surgery.

The introduction of computer-based training systems for laparoscopic surgery has increased the training quality and made the learning effect measurable with objective criteria. This paper introduces VSOne as a fully-featured virtual reality training system for laparoscopic surgery. VSOne utilizes the state-of-the-art in virtual reality techniques, soft tissue simulation and haptic device contro...
